He was later appointed on the board of the Foundation for Professional Training for Lawyers (in Dutch: Stichting Beroepsopleiding Advocatuur) in Curacao. Rik is former Dean of the Sint Maarten Bar Association (in Dutch: Deken van de Orde van Advocaten te Sint Maarten).
He became member of the Disciplinary Board of Lawyers of the Netherlands Antilles (in Dutch: lid van de Raad van Toezicht op de Advocatuur) in 2006.

Rik is board member of the University of Sint Maarten and is involved in several other foundations and (non profit) organizations on Sint Maarten.
He is volunteer advisor to the Red Cross, Chapter Sint Maarten and the Sint Maarten Heineken Regatta.
