With a legal career for more than 25 years, Caroline has joined BZSE Attorneys at Law/Tax Lawyers per June 1st, bringing with her international legal experience.
Caroline began her career in the mid 1990s in Curaçao, and continued her career in Sint Maarten in 1998 where she joined the law firm Halley Blaauw Verzijl and Navarro—currently known as HBN Law & Tax -. In 2000, she moved to France, returning to the Caribbean in 2006 to continue as an attorney across the Caribbean region.
Her legal practice includes both litigation and advisory services for a diverse range of international clients across industries including finance, transport, real estate, technology, and hospitality. She has advised on and litigated on matters such as (corporate) contracts, liability and damages claims, pension law, financial regulatory and data protection.
Caroline is experienced in boardroom advisory and has an in-depth knowledge of the legal frameworks and regulatory landscapes of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, covering four countries and five legal jurisdictions.
Over the years, she's guided banks, insurers and pension funds in matters concerning regulatory authorities such as the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten, Central Bank of Aruba, De Nederlandsche Bank, the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), and the Fair Trade Authority Curaçao.
She was the President of the Curaçao Data Protection Authority during the period 2021- 2022, chaired the Antillean Jurist Association for many years and was the Dean of the Curaçao Bar in 2012-2013. She furthermore was member of the Curaçao Maritime Disciplinary Board during the period 2009-2010.
Caroline is known for her ability to quickly assess complex legal issues, ask the right questions, and deliver practical, compliant, and strategic legal solutions.
