Career

Dana Kweekel studied law at Leiden University and graduated with a master in civil and criminal law.

She started her career in 2001 at corporate/healthcare section of the international law firm CMS Derks Star Busmann in Utrecht, where she advised clients and litigated in the field of (medical) liability, disciplinary health law, tobacco law and, in general, contract law.

In 2006, Dana joined Brinkhof, a boutique law firm specialized in regulated markets. At Brinkhof, Dana advised clients and litigated in the field of insurance law, medical disciplinary law, pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical licensing and advertising law, partnership disputes and admission agreements.

She moved to Sint Maarten in 2011, where she joined a local law firm and had a general civil and administrative law practice.

From 2013 till 2021, Dana worked as a sr. legal policy advisor at the policy department and later as sr. legal advisor at the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (VSA). During this period, she advised on the interpretation and implementation of legislation, executional policies and enforcement procedures in the areas of labor, food safety, drinking water, childcare, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and social insurances. Also during this time, she represented the Minister and Inspectorate as an attorney at law in healthcare related administrative court proceedings.

Through this experience, Dana has gained a thorough understanding of the laws, processes and policies in public administration, health care, labor, pharmaceuticals, food and drinking water and social insurances. In addition, she is an experienced attorney at law.

She returned to the private sector in 2022, joining BZSE Attorneys at law /Tax Lawyers where she will provide services to clients in the civil and administrative law practice.


Fields of Expertise

Dana is an expert in both civil and administrative law, with specialties in health, pharmaceutical, disciplinary and enforcement law. In addition, she is a certified legislative lawyer, trained to draft, amend, and review legislation.

Dana is a strong believer in continuous education and personal and professional growth and has, over the past years successfully completed masterclasses in privacy law and government liability. In 2022, she completed the course to become a certified legislative lawyer, provided by the University of Curacao and the Caribbean Center of Legislation.

Dana is best described as a pragmatic attorney, who equally enjoys providing strategic and practical advice to her clients and handling complex cases.
